The Mother-Drum of Africa

Ayanbinrin

A Woman, A Drum, A Movement

Who is Ayanbinrin?

Widely celebrated as The Mother-Drum of Africa.

Ayanbinrin is a renowned Nigerian female talking drummer, singer, dancer, master of ceremony (MC), traditional wedding compere (Alaga Iduro/Ijoko), and distinguished Yoruba cultural ambassador. She has carved a remarkable path in an artistic tradition historically dominated by men.

Her stage name, Ayanbinrin, meaning “female drummer” in Yoruba, represents more than her mastery of the talking drum. It embodies her mission to preserve, promote, and reposition Yoruba and African indigenous culture for contemporary audiences around the world.
